Download Moony 0.10.0
Installers by operating system
macOS
Apple Silicon means an M1 or newer chip. Not sure which Mac you have? Apple menu → About This Mac: the Chip or Processor line says Apple M… or Intel.
Install and first launch
The installers are not code-signed yet. Signing needs an Apple Developer Program membership and a Windows code-signing certificate, which the project does not have; it is planned. Until then macOS and Windows show a warning the first time you open the app. The app is not damaged: follow the steps below once. Updates inside the app are verified with the project's own signature either way.
macOS
- Open the
.dmgand drag Moony into Applications. - Open Terminal (Applications → Utilities) and run this once:
It removes the “downloaded from the internet” mark that makes macOS say “Moony is damaged and can't be opened” (Gatekeeper). Then open Moony as usual.xattr -cr /Applications/Moony.app
If macOS instead says it cannot verify the developer, you can also go to System Settings → Privacy & Security (on macOS 12 and earlier: System Preferences → Security & Privacy), scroll to Security and click Open Anyway next to Moony.
Windows
- Download the installer. If the browser says the file is not commonly downloaded, keep it (in Edge: ⋯ → Keep → Show more → Keep anyway).
- Run it. Windows SmartScreen may show “Windows protected your PC”. Click More info, then Run anyway.
Linux
Builds are provided for x86_64.
chmod +x Moony_0.10.0_amd64.AppImage && ./Moony_0.10.0_amd64.AppImageSome distributions need the libfuse2 package for AppImages.
sudo apt install ./Moony_0.10.0_amd64.debsudo dnf install ./Moony-0.10.0-1.x86_64.rpmFirst run
A brief, skippable welcome animation leads into a setup wizard. It walks you through:
- Your main currency and country.
- A name and a password.
- Your recovery key. Save it: it is the only way to reset a forgotten password, and it works only together with the key files in the data folder, so back up your data too (Settings → Data and backups).
- What to track.
- An offer to add your first account and import a bank statement.
The dashboard then shows a Getting started checklist.
Updating
After you unlock Moony, it asks GitHub whether a newer version exists and offers a one-click update. The download is verified against the project's public key before it is installed. You can switch the automatic check off in Settings; what it sends is listed on the Privacy page.
System requirements
macOS
Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. The release does not state a minimum macOS version; current and recent versions are expected to work. If Moony does not open on an older one, tell us in GitHub Discussions.
Windows
Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. Moony needs the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime, which is preinstalled on both; the installer fetches it if it is missing.
Linux
x86_64 only: an AppImage, a .deb for Debian and Ubuntu and an .rpm for Fedora and openSUSE.
